'After The Rain' is one of my latest paintings. It's a view over the River Mersey, Liverpool after a heavy rainstorm.
I took shelter whilst the rain was pouring down - I love watching rain, especially as it bounces off the pavement. Once the rain had stopped, it was amazing to see the sun shining through the stormy clouds and the light reflections on the surface of the river.
Based on one of my own reference photos, I used watermixable oil paints to produce this piece of artwork (a combination of Winsor & Newton Artisan, Jackson's Art & Daler Rowney Georgian paints), applying it with painting knives and brushes on Ampersand Gessobord 7" x 5".
In order to eliminate solvents from my studio, I use watermixable oils when using brushes as part of the painting process, as they can be cleaned in water. If I'm using painting knives only, then I'll paint with either traditional or watermixable oils, as the knives can be cleaned with paper towels.
